At True Eye Experts, we’re excited to be certified providers in CooperVision’s Brilliant Futures Myopia Management Program. The cornerstone of this comprehensive approach to myopia management in pediatric patients is the MiSight® 1 day contact lens – the first and only contact lens approved by the FDA to slow myopia progression in children, aged 8-12 at the initiation of treatment.
Myopia is more commonly referred to as nearsightedness, or the inability to see objects clearly at a distance. Myopia can worsen as your child’s eyes continue to grow. The reason objects are blurry in distance with nearsightedness is because the eye becomes longer as the child grows. A sharp increase in myopia has drawn the attention of the eye care industry, with 81% of practitioners saying myopia is one of the biggest problems impacting children’s eyesight today. If left untreated, worsening myopia may contribute to more severe eye health complications and sight-threatening conditions later in life.
Myopia is on the rise – in its frequency and severity. The reason for its escalation has been linked to two factors. The first factor is genetics: family history places a role in your child’s risk of myopia. The likelihood of children developing myopia increases if their parents are myopic. The second factor is lifestyle: research shows that modern lifestyles may influence the development of myopia. Insufficient time spent outdoors, poor lighting levels, and prolonged time spent reading or working with digital devices like smartphones or tablets may increase the risk.
Managing myopia with the Brilliant FuturesTM Myopia Management Program and MiSight® 1 day contact lenses can provide your child with a wide-range of benefits in addition to clear vision. First, these contact lenses can slow the progression of myopia during your child’s growing years. They also offer a comfortable wearing experience while reducing your child’s worry of losing or breaking their glasses. MiSight® 1 day contact lenses provide children with a better quality of life than children wearing glasses, especially regarding athletics and appearance.
This convenient, daily disposable contact lens is well-accepted by children and does not affect their daily activities. In fact, 90% of kids said they preferred the MiSight® 1 day contact lenses to their glasses and could apply and remove them on their own. It is designed to be worn for ten or more hours per day, six or more days per week to get the maximum treatment effect. In addition to their ease of use, MiSight® 1 day contact lenses are approved by the FDA as safe for children.
